Minister Radev and the Ambassador of the State of Israel H.E. Yosef Levi Sfari discussed energy topics of bilateral interest
Energy Minister Rumen Radev discussed with the Ambassador of the State of Israel H.E. Yosef Levi Sfari and Deputy Head of the Israeli Mission Naama Levi current energy topics, as well as prospects for bilateral co-operation. Deputy Minister Krassimir Nenov and the Head of the Political Cabinet Ms. Karina Angelieva also attended the meeting.
The Israeli diplomat expressed the country's interest in cooperating in electricity production and storage and commented on ideas for biomass utilization as a solution to reduce carbon emissions. He informed the Bulgarian side of the willingness to collaborate on the envisaged energy activities set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Minister Radev presented the main priorities of the Energy Ministry's work, focusing on the implementation of natural gas and nuclear energy. He underscored Bulgaria's vital role in ensuring energy connectivity in the Balkan region and in Southeast Europe with the transit of blue fuel to Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Romania and Moldova.
Regarding nuclear power, Minister Radev underlined that Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant provides nearly 35 per cent of the country's electricity output. This is important as for the security and balancing of the electricity system, as well as for providing electricity at competitive prices to the population and the industry. We support the EU initiative to consider nuclear energy as a low-emission source, the Energy Minister further pointed out. He stressed that security is without an alternative in the development of nuclear energy, both globally and in Bulgaria.
Readiness was declared for active cooperation between the institutions and businesses of both states in the use of renewable energy sources, diversification of supplies, implementation of the green transition, hydrogen technologies, decarbonisation, etc.
