"The project for the construction of the 7th and 8th units of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant" is one of the main priorities in the work of the current government. It is of strategic importance for the energy security of Bulgaria and the region, as well as for achieving the goals for decarbonisation," Minister Malinov said. He met with Hyundai Engineering and Construction Regional Director for Europe and North Africa, Hyunghwan Park.

Hyundai presented their experience and expertise in nuclear energy as one of the leading companies building nuclear capacity.

During the conversation, Minister Malinov stressed that an investment of this magnitude is crucial for the Bulgarian economy. "We count on our joint cooperation for the successful implementation of the project, respecting all security and safety requirements, within the foreseen timeframe and budget. It is extremely important for us to involve Bulgarian companies with relevant expertise in the construction of new nuclear capacity," Malinov underlined.

We recall that, by decision of 23 February 2024, the South Korean company Hyundai Engineering and Construction was selected for negotiations to become a potential contractor for the engineering, construction, supply and commissioning of the 7th and 8th units on site 2 of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant with U.S. Westinghouse technology AP-1000.
